Geography

    • Antarctica is the earth’s southernmost continent.

  • Currently it is overlying the South Pole, but Antarctica hasn’t always been there, because of continental drift.

The Southern Ocean:

    • The ocean that encircles Antarctica.

    • The Southern Ocean is the name for the merging of the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans.

    • It is the world’s 4th largest ocean

Geography

    • People question why the Southern Ocean is a separate ocean instead of just being considered an extension of the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans. However, its water makeup is unique because of the Antarctic Circumpolar current.
